Lynda’s background

Lynda’s background in law enforcement and education are the foundations that have strengthened and balanced the way she approaches her Board service. She was the Deputy Psychologist and Investigator for the Richland County Sheriff’s Dept. and taught Ethics, Dispatching, Problem Solving, Gangs, Felony Car Stops, and more at the SC Criminal Justice Academy. She also taught Physical Education, Resource, and ESL at the Saudi Arabian International School in Riyadh, then returned to Greenville, where she was a Guidance Counselor/Physical Education teacher and coach at JL Mann High. She has also served as Dept. Head of Criminal Justice, Director of Enrollment, Director of College in High School, and Executive Director of the Carolinas Institute for Community Policing at Greenville Technical College.

I support Lynda Leventis-Wells for SC State Superintendent of Education. As a fellow school board member, I have witnessed Lynda's strong love for children firsthand. She is not afraid to stand for what is right for students and is swift to advocate for them beyond the boundaries of the boardroom when the need arises. As a former educator, she also understands that providing a quality education for our youth will lead to a brighter future for our community and our state. This is something Lynda is enthusiastic about and her lifetime of service in law enforcement and education serves as a personal testimony to this point. If elected, Lynda will collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and citizens to seek solutions to today's educational problems, and she will create and implement a plan of action that will elevate student outcomes in South Carolina.

I have known Lynda for more than 30 years. Over that time period. As a former police chief for 17 years in South Carolina (Greer and Columbia), and having raised my two sons in South Carolina public schools and universities, I have a good sense of how the SC school systems work and what is needed to make them better. Lynda is the right person, with the right temperament to serve in this capacity for the citizens of South Carolina. She understands the issues and understands how the process works.

Over the last 12 years, I have been in the classroom teaching law enforcement professionals all across this country for FBILEEDA Lynda is a tireless advocate for school children all across the state and a tireless advocate of education in general at all levels. She has worked in education her entire adult life both as an educator, a parent volunteer, and as an elected official of the Greenville County Schools where she has served as both a school board chairperson and board member. She's led the fight on tough issues but has always sided with the rights of parents to secure the best possible education for their children. Lynda consistently demonstrates that she knows how to get things done and makes things happen. She will do what is best for students and for parents across the Palmetto State.
